i had a busy day, but a good day today. we are at sea on our way to the suez canal, and we have to park and queue up for our convoy going through at 6am tomorrow. pretty exciting to be going on to the next leg of our journey, the mediterranean! i have been to europe a couple of times, but never to the mediterranean coast or any of the countries we will visit there (it will be nice to be with bob in a country like italy where no one will yell at us for holding hands or stealing the occasional smooch!)
i had a get together at 11 am for guests who want to participate in the open mic tonight, and we once again have a pretty good variety of spoken word, singing and instruments. i did the captain’s cocktail party tonight, and he was a bit distracted, then he explained during his toast that he would have to sadly not join them for dinner; since we had already anchored to wait in line for the suez, the authorities told him to pull anchor and relocate to another spot, so some of the guests were a bit put out that he wouldn’t be able to join them for dinner… one particularly vocal person kept loudly grumbling during the captain’s toast, until the captain asked if he had anything he would like to say… i was totally mortified… what a boorish thing to do! give him a break, he sort of has to do his job! i wish keelhauling was still allowed… i don’t think i have mentioned my keelhauling wish list, of the dozen or so people i think should get the privilege, but this guy was number one this evening… not cool…
it was 1001 arabian nights themed formal night this evening, so i wore my black and silver snakeskin patterned duster… i figured i would go as the snake that poisoned cleopatra (in other words, i made an asp out of myself… hee hee). my cocktail set was packed as was the guest open mic night… we had a frankie valli and four seasons tribute group on the mainstage, so everyone hit that at 10 except for a small group of hard core piano bar regulars… i kept the mic open and got to sit in the house for a bit while jerry played the piano and his wife, gail, sang and told stories and another guy did some singing… it was nice to sit on the other side! i stayed later tonite than i have in awhile… a day at sea helped folks catch up on their rest a little! more from the suez canal tomorrow! ciao, me
